How to Get Healthy White Teeth Naturally

It seems like the whole country’s going organic – but what about your teeth? White teeth are a lot more than a status symbol and beauty tool.

White, straight teeth are also a sign of good health. However, when it comes to all of those bleach kits and treatments, it seems like a lot of them are use chemicals.

Is it possible to get white, healthy teeth naturally? The answer is yes, if you follow some daily good habits and keep a diligent regimen. For example, baking soda really does work, but there’s no reason to invest in expensive toothpastes with Arm & Hammer included.

Instead, an occasional mild scrub with a damp washcloth dipped in pure baking soda does the trick for a “whitening effect” without the harsh chemicals. Just be careful – too much baking soda can erode enamel.

It’s what you don’t do

Teeth can be easily stained if you’re an avid drinker of tea, coffee, red wine or other dark beverages. This is especially true right after a dental cleaning. Opt for light or clear beverages and sauces to ensure your teeth stay as white as possible.

It’s also wise to follow the Southeast Asian tradition of brushing right after every meal. Pack a travel toothbrush and mini-toothpaste in your bag or purse and duck into the restroom for a quick brushing throughout the day.

Choose strawberries as your dessert du jour because they have a natural scrubbing effect that’s shown to keep teeth white. However, all berries are acidic and can also wear away at enamel over time.

A handful of strawberries every day or so can have beneficial effects, but just don’t overdo it. Dairy products like milk and cheese are cavity preventers and keep bones strong – including your teeth.

Rinse and repeat

Along the same lines as brushing after each meal, a good habit to form is to rinse thoroughly with water after eating something. It’s easy for food and beverages to get left behind, and that’s how stains form.

It’s also important to ingest more water daily anyway, since many Americans are chronically dehydrated. A water rinse is a good reminder to drink more H2O while working on that whiter smile.

At the same time, keep in mind that everyone has a different idea of what white is their preferred white. Those celebrities with blinding smiles likely have veneers that were created to go above and beyond what’s humanly possible.

Look at pictures of yourself as a child and you’ll see what a genuine white smile looks like. No smile should actually be pure white.

Practice good dental hygiene

Brush at least twice per day, floss once a day and make sure to see your dentist every year for a good cleaning. There’s no substitute for regular, solid oral hygiene.

However, most people – even those that brush regularly – don’t do it as well or as long as they should. Ask your dental hygienist for a refresher course on brushing, and make sure to spend at least two minutes on brushing your teeth.

Some people naturally stain faster than others, and that’s okay. Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll be able to keep your teeth whiter longer.
